Aiko Koi

Original size 5"x7" © 2014 Lisabella Russo (formerly Lisa Isabella Russo)

I have long been fascinated by koi fish, I love to watch and photograph them at Descanso Gardens, but this is my first koi fish painting. I decided to give this brocaded koi a heart shaped marking. In Japanese "Aiko" means "love" or "affection," and because of this, koi fish are symbols of love and friendship. The blue is a little more subtle in the original then it is in the scan and there is some texture for ripples in the pond in the original painting.
